Good post about Michael, and on how having greater depth gives you less span. It just makes a whole lot of sense. I think it will actually make me feel less "guilty" of being passionate! Imagine how many great minds are being clouded because of the fear of being regarded as outcasts.

Get Resourceful and Break the Cycle of Doom and Gloom

James Ray International Back in September of last year, Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve Chair, claimed that we had entered the worst economic crisis he had ever seen. In the months that followed, economic indicators got a whole lot worse and the news media (you'll recall we discussed the "business of fear" in a previous blog) couldn't stop blaring the siren song of: "this is the worst it's been since the Great Depression, yada, yada, ya!"

And, so the story continues. For those of us trying to stay rational, live without being on hyper alert or suffering daily panic attacks; what are we supposed to think, feel and do? Are these experts giving us responsible analysis of a dire situation, or is this economic doom and gloom a one-sided story that's perhaps doing us more harm than good?

Both are true. But you have a lot more power than you think to not only survive this storm, but to thrive! Despite any real challenges you may be experiencing--and let's face it, they are out there--there are simple ways to empower yourself and start using your challenges to your advantage. Challenges are an integral part of life--so what are you going to do about them? By concentrating on something over which you have total control--your thoughts, feelings and actions--the positive changes can be swifter than you can imagine.

You move towards what you focus on

In last month's blog, I wrote about how energy flows where attention goes. Thankfully, that's a reality that's gained serious traction as of late. So, too, is that fact that what you focus on expands. Meaning: give anything your time and attention and suddenly you start seeing a lot more of it in your life--both bad and good.

But even though these principles are becoming more accepted, that doesn't mean we don't need frequent reminders to place our attention on what we want and choose for our lives, and away from what we don't want. Particularly when life gets challenging, bad habits take over, don't they? So you've got to be vigilant and constantly on your game. For instance, there's a big difference between checking the online headlines each day to see what's happening in the world so that you're informed versus falling asleep to the news so that messages of murder, mayhem, sickness, and poverty replay like a soundtrack for eight hours in your unconscious mind. You may have to be informed; you don't have to be inundated.

Moreover, there's a massive difference between looking at your finances and putting a debt reduction plan in place (realistic and proactive) versus staring at your bills every day until you're paralyzed by images of living in a cardboard box and pushing all your worldly goods around in a shopping cart (a fear-based self-fulfilling prophecy you don't want!).

Bottom line reminder: FOCUS on what you WANT! See it. Feel it. Live it. Be it. Only you can safeguard what you allow into that fabulous mind of yours. At the risk of sounding like a broken record... energy flows where attention goes!

Watch what the masses are doing and do the opposite

This is not always easy. We're hammered every day with ideas from the media, our friends and associates. You've got to break out of this conversation if you ever hope to live up to your potential. Those who are currently thriving today know and believe that they can and will thrive regardless of economic indicators, and they're looking for opportunities. Warren Buffet said, "When other people are greedy be cautious. When other people are cautious be greedy." While I'd personally choose a different word than greedy, the philosophy is clear. Think, feel, and act opposite from the collective.

I once saw a beautiful oceanfront home in Carmel, California, right on the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course--an estate worth many millions of dollars. The family who lived there had a tale to tell about how they acquired it. During WWII, the owners believed that German or Japanese soldiers would attack the West Coast of the U.S., so they sold their estate for a song--ten cents on the dollar, to be exact. The new owners, who had been there for fifty-plus years by the time I ran into them, were still celebrating their good fortune! Panic creates panic. Level heads open up the space for forward-thinking and forward movement.

One of the most surprising historical truths from the much touted Great Depression is that more millionaires were created at that time than at any other time in our history. But that makes perfect sense when you think about it. When millions of people panic and sell their assets below market value, what happens? Value and opportunity and "deals" spring up like weeds after a spring rain. The same holds true today; there's never been a better time in our generation to find bargains--in real estate especially. The fact is that someone has to do well regardless of economic indicators... why not you? The people coming out ahead, not surprisingly, have one thing in common, which brings me to my our next topic...

It's not about resources it's about resourcefulness

Okay, if you don't have money, you're not going to be buying even inexpensive estates right now, no matter the "steal" of the listing price. I get it. But, what makes certain people thrive in tough times? Are they luckier or smarter than the average person? It's simple, really. They're resourceful. Resources always flow to he or she who is most resourceful. That may not seem possible, or even fair, but it's true nonetheless.

Physics tells us that all there ever was or shall ever be is already here, and that there are plenty of resources because energy can never be created or destroyed. If you're having a problem wrapping your mind around that--having seen the haunting images of children without water or heat, for example--let me say that real answers to those problems abound. Maybe you haven't yet seen the Youtube videos (although a quick search will reveal them), but there are scientists who pull water straight from air vapor (no kidding), create clean fuel from burning salt water with very little heat (I know, that's a mind twister), and power entire factories on cow dung (that's some cool shit)! And, those are just a few of the innovations that only a few years ago would have seemed impossible. I wonder what magic you can create in your own life?

We're constantly hearing that we're going to run out of oil. I say who cares! We have wind, solar, and plenty other resources we've not even yet thought of. We just need to get resourceful and quit hanging onto the past. T. Boone Pickens is so excited about wind power these days that he's putting billions of dollars into a wind farm in Texas. Now let me ask you: what would cause an oil billionaire to get that excited about wind? He's resourceful. Once again, resources always flow to he and she who are resourceful.

Train yourself to look for opportunities

I mentioned this earlier but it bears repeating, and repeating. Thermodynamics tells us that "that which you are seeking is also seeking you."As a species, we're not conditioned to look for opportunities in times of crisis. On the contrary, we're conditioned to play defense. Defense says, "I'm going to hold on; I'm going to pull-back, I'm going to hoard--even if what I'm hoarding is the most meager of results."

That's a strategy... a strategy of scarcity. And it's a self-fulfilling prophecy of defeat. Clinging onto something to protect what little you have is focusing on the not having and the not enough. And, when you're focusing on not having something, you're not looking at what you can do to be resourceful. Most of us are constantly looking at external indicators, but your internal indicators are where your power resides. A wise prophet once said, "Judge not by appearances." While most of us in Western society have heard that a time or three... it's an entirely different thing to live it. What are you seeking?

To create anything you desire and deserve you must practice what I call going 3 for 3. Notice anyone who's knocking it down, regardless of economic or any external indicators, and they're going 3 for 3. Their thoughts, feelings and actions are all firing in alignment. What are most people seeking right now with their 3 for 3 strategy? They're thinking defeated, they're feeling defeated, and they're acting defeated. Therefore, they're defeated. Let that not be you.

Begin right now... this very moment... to constantly train yourself to think resourceful, feel resourceful, and act resourceful; and you'll very quickly see your life transform before your very eyes. Test me on this one, and watch the resources you seek seek you!

Great post, James. During the recession (in the UK) during the early 80's I spent 3 years out of work - I'd just left college at 19 and in the UK we had 10% unemployment with a three and a half million dole queue. I just job hunted continuously and ended up taking anything (including lots of voluntary work). All I wanted was a steady job (I had a family at 19) and couldn't get one anywhere because I lacked a decent enough skill set to overcome the barriers to employment.

Unfortunately I was reliant on other people's ideas of what I was useful for. I did jobs I hated until my 30's and when I got laid off from about my tenth employer, during which the UK experienced a 'mini-recession', I decided it was time to get a career.

So I took a risk - I had a young family at the time but decided I wanted to work in administration.

I went back to college and trained for two years full-time and when I came out of it I felt much more resourceful. The alternative choice would have been to follow the same pattern I'd followed in the 80's but there was no way I was going through that powerless experience again. I used the second recession as an opportunity for growth.

That was 18 years ago and I've not been out of work since and continually build a stronger career (and am working towards a business on the side too).

This recession holds no fear for me because even if they make me redundant now I 'know the way'.

Step back, look at what you like to do in various areas of your life, is there a new career out there for you to follow on the basis of what you like to do? Do it. You've nothing to lose from turning a bit of misfortune into a new future.

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.

- Albert Einstein, physicist

In tight times I remember this, because if I'm whining about not having Take out when I have food at home or about cancelling a trip to sea world when there is an aquarium in my own town I've never gone to, then I have truly missed the point of gratitude and need to learn humility.

As a single parent who worked two jobs for several years just to make the rent, buy a few groceries, and spend the day at the park I am grateful now. I do not have a mountain of debt because no one would give me credit, I do not exceed my means because I never could, and I do not begrudge the down turn of an economy that had become so over-inflated that something as simple as providing shelter for my family was impossible to afford without sacrificing said family.

Yes, at this point in my life, I must say that I am grateful for that portion of my past though at the time I was less so. I think that too many times we Americans get so caught up in what everyone else seems to have and what everyone else is telling us to be, do, try, etc...that like harrisc we spend years doing things that are not right for us. So even though something looks like a tragedy it is often the very thing thing that frees us from the things that keep us trapped. Perhaps now is the time to find our priorities and remember that all things are miracles.

The Business of Fear

James Arthur Ray For months now, we've been literally inundated with how crummy the economy is and how, in the words of many (including our president), it's the worst recession since the Great Depression. Now if that weren't enough, the media has a new drum to beat: Swine Flu.

Look, let's be rational here for a minute (something the media can't really afford to do)... You have a greater chance of dying of lung cancer or diabetes than you do of swine flu. I wonder how many people are watching the news in the morning worrying about a pig virus while they eat their Krispy Kreme and smoke a Camel?

If I come across as irreverent, my irreverence is directed at the media, not at those individuals being programmed daily with the latest scare tactic. It's time to wake up and take a look at the facts.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent, stated, "In the United States, over 60,000 people per year contract the seasonal flu." According to the CDC, about 36,000 of those who contract seasonal flu worldwide actually die from it. In contrast, according to the latest USA Today tally, there are a grand total of 695 cases of verified swine flu across (get this) 15 countries!

Yet, for the 30 minutes CNN was on during my morning workout, the anchors droned on for a full fifteen minutes about the swine flu. And the TV next to that one had Fox on... They were talking about (you guessed it) the potential "pandemic" that has less verified cases than the 822 people per day (300,000 per year) that die from obesity.

But you know what? Fear is a business.

And it's oh so sellable, isn't it? It's in the media's best interest to keep things dramatic. It draws us in and keeps us watching for fear we might miss something that will save us from being flat broke with a pig virus.

I will also mention that it's in the Obama Administration's best interest to address the pig virus fast as well so they aren't perceived to be out of touch like our past administration was during Katrina. It's in the drug company's best interest to pump the fear of disease onto the airwaves consistently. Everyone has an agenda, but that agenda is rarely the harmony and well-being of our nation or our world.

The world needs a voice of reason.

We each individually need to wake up, take a stand and decide what type of life we choose to live. Those who continually take at face value what they're being fed will continually get smacked in the face.

And what about the "economic crisis" we hear so much about? I'm not suggesting that we're not in a recession... But the greatest one since the Great Depression? Untrue!

Just take a moment and reflect back on the 70's, and you'll recall that you couldn't even buy expensive gas. Remember the odd/even days and the lines at the pump? Gas is plentiful today.

In the 70's, interest rates were 24% and unemployment was over 10% (as it also was in the early 80's). Today, you can get a 30-year fixed loan for around 5%, and unemployment is at about 8% nationwide. It's not the worst recession since the Great Depression. However, give the media long enough, and it'll scare us right into creating it.

Energy flows where attention goes.

What we neglect to remember (and what we're never reminded of) is that 8% unemployment means 92% percent of the people in this country are employed! I guarantee you'll be hard pressed to hear a news anchor on any station stating, "Great news today! 92% of the people in our country were employed and received their paycheck last week."

The Wall Street game and the economy are as much psychological as financial. Peter Lynch, one of the greatest investors of all time, stated, "If you spend more than 15 minutes a year worrying about the market, you've wasted 12 minutes." How about you? The things you give attention come to life. In fact, attention equals love.

Think about it. If you love your mate, do you give him or her attention? What about if you love your kids... Do you give them attention? The answer is obvious.

Attention equals love.

So what are you giving your attention to? If you're really honest, you may realize you're in love with your misery. That's right. You love your misery because you're attending to it all the time.

So we continue to give attention to our crummy economy. "Give us more fear," we unconsciously plead... It keeps our endorphins pumping! What's worse than being broke? Being sick and broke. Oh boy, now that's really scary! Energy flows where attention goes.

You think we'd learn our lesson after Y2K. Or how about the eight years of the "Global War on Terror." Are we any more at peace because of it? Not even close. Think about it... We haven't had one major terrorist issue since 9/11, and yet we're more terrorized then we've ever been.

I'm on the road 200 days a year, and not one single day during the last eight years have I heard an announcement from TSA that the threat level was less than orange or yellow. What does orange mean anyway? Who knows, but it sounds pretty scary doesn't it? Our consistent focus of attention is feeding the bonfire of terror. It rages on, and we wonder why it never goes out.

Let's wake up and take a stand.

Your consistent thoughts, feelings and actions determine the results you create in all areas. In fact, the formula for success in any area is to: Think, Feel, Act.

There's never been a time in recent history where it's been more vital to direct and control your attention. What you're allowing into your consistent thoughts and feelings is going to determine your subsequent actions, as well as the results you produce.

Turn off the business of fear. Read good books, watch inspiring movies and listen to educational CDs. These practices make you better and more resourceful. When you change your thoughts and feelings, your actions must follow, and your life will change.

The time is now to take action: big, bold, immediate. For fate favors the bold.

When you let go of the fear and refuse to allow it to be pumped into your home and head on a daily basis, you can place your attention on becoming more creative, resourceful and empowered.

Resources always flow to those who are more resourceful. They always have and always will. Get resourceful, lock your attention on what you say you love, and you'll have more to love. You deserve it... And so does our world.

Brilliantly said, James. I find it important, in all aspects of life, to understand the impressive power of viewpoint ("92% employment," e.g.).

Too few people comprehend their own power and seek it out, instead choosing to shirk responsibility when there are positive things all around them.

I see it often in my healthcare practice and am looking for ways to speak to people that would empower them to make their life the best it can be instead of falling victim to a diagnosis or "bad genes" or "old age." It is as if having a crutch makes it excusable for them to limp through life.

We can (and should and must) be more.

Thanks, as always, for all you do.

Thank you, James, for this thoughtful posting.

I've been saying for some time now that the media are "domestic terrorists" - and I continue to maintain that.

Keep up the good work!

James, it's so very interesting, but I had the exact same thought this morning, (really - it's on Twitter), so of course I agree. It is a sad commentary that fear sells so well these days. As I said earlier today, it's the media's job to sell their news, it is mine to create my own.
Thanks James for yet another bit of insightful and thought provoking statements and for encouraging us all to look INward instead of OUTward for the solutions we are seeking.

Dearest James, I love this outpouring of brilliance! What a rant! So perfectly on point.

You called it like it is. Yes, as you state each one must be responsible for choosing to tune out the "propaganda of fear". We can not lament for those who chose to buy in. We create our own lives and project our own worlds.

I think you are "preaching to the so called choir" here. The people attracted to your energy and message are those who have already tuned out the collective consciousness of fear to a large degree.

How do we get this message to those still tuned in? By embodying it! By being a living example of NO fear, NO Sickness, NO brokeness, by flourishing and expanding. As the light of our being brightens and illuminates, others will notice.

Everybody wants to "feel better", to be joyful, peaceful and content. Be this and others will "catch" your energy.

I invite every single reader of your post to be 100% responsible for their vibration. To raise it beyond any doubt and feed it (as you give examples of ways to do) with the commitment to shine and radiate as brightly as you can. As you change, the world changes.

As the nonphysical collective I have the privilege of bringing through always say:

"On the other side of fear is a miracle..." Embody the miracle.

This is a "fear releasing tool", channeled from the collective a bit over a month ago - http://is.gd/q2BQan - "Effective & Quick Anytime Fear Release". It utilizes flowing energy through you and your body to quickly release fearful feelings and thoughts. It can be used anywhere, anytime by anyone. Even in a room full of people!

Thank you James for your commitment, your enthusiasm and your energy.

In Gratitude and Love,

Hi James,
I went to your seminar back in June and broke a board in half. I never knew how powerful that is! Last night I watched your videos. Today I sat on the call. I just want to say thank you for everything. I wish I could fit more in here. But you helped me again by letting me know that I am right on track with resolving my issues at my job so I can go forth and prosper into something else! I thank all the people I struggle to get along with and it did wonders! I also have been looking for meditation and so now I have just ordered Collapse The World and am so excited. I want to do so much and feel I'm on the verge of something amazing and beautiful. On the call today you also talked about leaving personal relationships behind of many kinds and I seriously have one friend who is my ex ha ha that I can talk to! I know I did this and it all makes sense to me which is awing even though sad. I just feel really compelled today to tell people how I feel and gratitude is contagious. I am really in the mode right now and I hope the flow doesnt stop. So you were one on my list and I just want to give you a heart felt thank you. I'm sure I left out a bunch I want to say but just know you're appreciated in a huge way! I am aiming to meet people like you!

PS. I also wanted to say that my last blog was on the verge of being incoherent! LOL. I am really tired today. But I wanted to mention that for all the people I spent time thanking yesterday at my work, for the first time possibly ever, I felt in control of my life and relationships. Instead of waiting around for other people to change and worrying about what they think, I took accountability of my part in it all and realized even if I don't like every part of a person, there is still much to love in every single person. That is so powerful it blows my mind. Getting above the situation as you said in one of your podcasts. Accountability gives you the freedom to take control and or change the situation. That finally sank in today. I'm on a high with it. Anyway, thanks for allowing us to post here. I could type all day about this stuff I love it.
I hope you're doing well James and anybody that reads this.
Thanks for being a virtual friend! ;)

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. Hi James

ENjoyed the Today show clip, but I wish they would have given you more time to talk. Maybe I'm biased, but four minutes is not enough time to properly convey your message. And I find it quite curious that on most of the television interviews, the host/ interviewer focuses on the financial 99.999% of the time, completely ignoring the other 4 pillars. I believe the beauty of Harmonic Wealth is the idea that energy is applied to your entire life, INcluding the financial, not solely the financial. However, I understand I am but the student, that's why teachers like yourself are so important, as you make this sort of information available to all those that desire to know and grow! and I appreciate that! :)
Thanks for all you share!

Do you love what you do?

Would you do it for free if necessary? Not that you have to by any means... But do you love it that much?

You should... Because life is precious, and you're literally trading your precious life for what you do--moment by moment, day by day. Think about it...

You spend more time making your living than you spend with the people you love the most.

So find your purpose and your passion, and follow it with excellence. Do for the sake of "doing" versus "getting." Do it very well, and the money will follow in avalanches of abundance as a by-product.

Your purpose is your love and passion made manifest through action. Once you find your unique purpose in life, you are truly blessed and rare...

So be daring and courageous, for greatness follows bravado, and fate favors the bold.

Not sure how to love what you do? Here are a few practical tips I shared on Fox Business Network's Fast Track:

Who will wear the crown?

I recently told you about the Miss America 2008 pageant and that I'll be one of the 7 judges along with Robin Meade, Sarah Ivens, Trace Ayala, Jason La Padura, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Kim Lyons...

You may find this surprising if you've paid attention to the pageant over the years... and you may even think you have an idea of what the program is all about... lots of makeup and big hair?

Think again.

The Miss America Organization has done some major overhauling and is now redefining who the new Miss America really is... a relatable "it girl" who can connect with today's modern woman. The heavy emphasis on outer beauty alone is long gone and replaced with the importance of selecting someone who's committed to making positive changes in the world at large.

It's not a "beauty" pageant anymore but rather an empowering outlet for women and a search for a contemporary role model and community leader... Someone who can really represent her generation and can make great contributions to society and the world at large.

And I'm truly honored to help select this American icon.

In fact I'm writing to you from fabulous Las Vegas, where I'm in the midst of interviewing the contestants and getting to know each of them... What their cause is, what they stand for and what they really believe in.

The reason I can really get behind this program is because I'm so committed to helping people, and it's truly an honor for me to help select one woman who can do the same... And in a big way.

The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Get this, last year the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available over $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance, helping young women nationwide to achieve their dreams and goals.

Not too shabby...

I'm really pleased with the refreshing new direction of this program, and I'm looking forward to this Saturday, January 26th, when the new Miss America is chosen LIVE on TLC.

I really hope you'll be able to tune in at 8:00 PM Eastern to see for yourself just how different and improved the program now is.

To your continued wealth and happiness,

Hello Dear...Enjoying yourself? Anytime to take in any shows? I'm sure you are on your best behavior while in LV - thank goodness someone came up with that line "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"! ;-)

You ask "Who will wear the crown?"

The crown belongs to all the women in America; the women who silently live their lives in an empowered fashion making the lives of those around them better for having touched them.

The crown belongs to all the women who commit themselves in each moment to live from a better place than they did the moment before inspiring all they meet.

The crown belongs to all the women who tirelessly and selflessly give of their hearts so that the world is made better and brighter for them having lived another day.

The crown belongs to all the women who are homeless and hungry on the streets of this country pushing around little carts laden with all their belongings trying to stay warm in the dead of winter.

The crown belongs to everyone of us. (So bring it home so that I may try it on!)

Judge well and choose from your heart; "it-ness" comes and goes, only unconditional selfless Love can make a true difference in the World.

Hey James!

So glad to see you following your bliss of helping others attain their dreams and goals in yet another way!

Great choice with Miss Michigan! Her parents and I have some very dear mutual friends!

The last time Miss Michigan wore the National crown was 20 years ago. Kaye Lani Raye Rafko caused a stir with her talent-a Tahitian folk dance-because we saw her navel! How scandalous! Her first week as the new icon, she went to Capitol Hill to appear in front of Congress. It was her dedication to the nursing profession that made the Miss America Organization institute a new requisite for all contestants - a platform. This girl didn't go to Disney World! The changes she brought about were done so by just following her dreams and being herself. How do I know all this "trivia" about her? She is from my small hometown. I think she personifies what you teach!

If it weren't for the Miss America Pageant system, Kaye Lani would never have been able to do what she has done for the nursing profession. Watching her journey through the 14 pageants she entered to win Miss Michigan awarded her the scholarships she used to go through college. What's wrong with that? She changed many a mind in my area on what this is all about.

Again, I say Bravo to you for helping others achieve thier dreams.

Two must-see appearances this month...

Tom Green's House Tonight

I'm proud to announce two very special appearances this month... Nothing like I've ever done before. The first is with Tom Green on his live TV/internet show Wednesday night... There are several very cool things about this interview, and here's a few of them:

  • The show's filmed live in the living room of Tom's Hollywood Hills home, and it's the first show to simultaneously air live on TV and online...
  • The interview has no agenda or pre-screened questions. This will be my most intimate, off-the-cuff and funny interview to date...
  • I'll be putting up a very cool personal item up for auction on eBay...
  • You can call in to ask me anything you want on live TV!
  • It's Tom Green... Unpredictable and always funny!

So be sure to clear your calendar... (I know you're going to love the item I'm putting on eBay!) Here are the details:

Watch Online
Wednesday (tomorrow) at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern
on www.tomgreen.com

Watch on TV
Wednesday (tomorrow) / Check your local listings for times
Canada (The Comedy Network); Houston, TX (KXTA); Phoenix, AZ (KUTP); Kansas City, MO (KSMO); Milwaukee, WI (WDJT); Las Vegas, NV (KTUD); Tulsa, OK (KMYT)

I'll also be a judge in the Miss America Pageant!

Miss America Pageant

Now, you might be thinking, "Why in the world are you doing that, James?" And the answer is simple... I'm so passionate about helping people that it's an honor for me to help select one woman who can do the same...

Did you know that Miss America travels over 20,000 miles a month, speaking to diverse audiences every other day throughout her reign? That hits home for me, and that's why I'm so dedicated to finding the right one.

You see, this year the Miss America Organization is revamping the program and really focusing on choosing a modern role model and true leader in their community. And they're ditching the big hair and overdone makeup!

Each of the other 6 judges and I get to interview each participant one-on-one and really dig into what they believe and what their cause is... And I'm going to be looking for the one who best exemplifies Harmonic Wealth®. The one that is truly an example of possibility.

The pageant is going to air live on TLC on January 26, 2008 at 8pm Eastern. (That's the cue to set your Tivo.)

PRESS RELEASE: 2008 MISS AMERICA LIVE! Puts the Spotlight on National Judges Saturday, January 26, 2008

Live from Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, on TLC

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- 2008 MISS AMERICA LIVE! promises to be an exciting event with the announcement of the strikingly diverse panel of national judges. This year's panel of seven esteemed judges includes a legendary Olympic athlete, an edgy fashion designer, Hollywood's hottest casting director, the editor of a trendy magazine, a successful entrepreneur, one of CNN's most popular newscasters and today's favorite fitness trainer. They will evaluate the contestants from the preliminaries through the final night of competition, which will be premiering live from Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 8:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed, exclusively on TLC. Plus, this year America will get to play the part of judge as TLC introduces Miss America: America's Choice, an online competition designed to choose the 16th finalist.

The judges were announced by Sam Haskell, Chairman of the Board for the Miss America Organization (MAO), Art McMaster, President and CEO of MAO, and Anthony Eaton, Producer of 2008 MISS AMERICA LIVE! This year's panel of judges is comprised of experts in each of the fields that a young woman must excel in, in order to be named Miss America. Miss America must be beautiful, talented, intelligent and well-spoken, a leader, have a commitment to her community, be contemporary in her style and fashion -- a relatable and individual "it girl" who can connect with today's modern woman, as well as being physically fit. To determine who will be Miss America 2008 the following panel of judges has been selected:

  • From the Field of Beauty and Fashion -- TRACE AYALA -- This Memphis-born fashion designer is the co-founder of William Rast denim with his childhood friend, Justin Timberlake. Ayala designs comfortable and stylish denim with quality fabrics and a well-designed fit.
  • From the Field of National Press defining today's "It Girl" -- SARAH IVENS -- Ivens is the Editor-in-Chief of OK! Magazine, which under her key direction has become America's fastest-growing publication and one of the most successful magazines specializing in celebrity news.
  • From the Field of Community Service -- JACKIE JOYNER-KERSEE -- Considered one of the greatest athletes of all time, Joyner-Kersee is the first woman to win back-to-back gold medals in the seven disciplined event heptathlon. Since retiring from competition, Joyner-Kersee has devoted herself to giving back to her community. As Founder and Chairperson of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, she spearheaded fundraising efforts to collect more than $12 million to build a safe haven for young people.
  • From the Field of Talent -- JASON LA PADURA -- This native New Yorker is the casting genius behind the Disney Channel phenomenon "High School Musical" and will soon begin work on the feature film, "High School Musical 3." He is currently casting the NBC hit "Heroes" and CBS' "Cane."
  • From the Field of Fitness -- KIM LYONS -- As a star of NBC's hit show, "The Biggest Loser," Lyons exemplifies fitness. Lyon's first book will be published in January 2008. She is also featured in the bestselling "The Biggest Loser" Cookbook, and "The Biggest Loser" Workout DVDs.
  • From the Communications/Interview Field -- ROBIN MEADE -- As the lead news anchor for Headline News' morning show, "Morning Express with Robin Meade," she has anchored the network's coverage of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Before joining CNN, Meade worked at NBC Chicago where she covered the 1996 Olympics, which included reporting on the Centennial Olympic Park bombing. Meade is a former Miss Ohio who competed in the 1992 Miss America Pageant. She is the recipient of two Emmy Awards.
  • From the Field of Leadership Development -- JAMES ARTHUR RAY -- Ray is the President and CEO of James Ray International, a multi-million dollar corporation dedicated to teaching individuals to create wealth in all areas of their lives: financially, relationally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually. He has been featured on Extra, The Today Show, Larry King Live, and the Oprah Winfrey Show for The Secret.

This year, America has the opportunity to select a surprise 16th pageant finalist with Miss America: America's Choice, an online competition that allows viewers to vote for their favorite Miss America contestant. Fans can vote by visiting http://www.tlc.com/missamerica beginning on Friday, January 4, after the first episode of TLC's new reality special, MISS AMERICA: REALITY CHECK and through the final episode on Saturday, January 26 (3 AM EST). The contestant with the most votes, who is not already included as a top 15 finalist, will be chosen as "America's Choice," and be revealed during the MISS AMERICA LIVE! finale.

MISS AMERICA: REALITY CHECK premieres January 4, at 10 PM (ET/PT) and airs consecutive Friday nights leading up to the MISS AMERICA LIVE! finale on January 26. Hosted by Michael Urie, the four-part series is designed to get these 52 state winners to forget everything they've learned in "pageant schools" over the years ... the walk ... the talk ... the hairspray ... and prepare them for the final competition to select Miss America 2008 ... the relatable "it girl" who can connect with today's modern woman.

Becoming More...

YES! I so appreciate all the support I received from Harmonic Wealth weekend. I've written some more pages on my dissertation and even meditated this morning! *smile* I am more focused on what I need to do in order to be true to myself. I know now that I can and will build a company using my passion to help orphanages on a larger scale. I also know that it will be tough at times (my meditation was a bit of a comedy act) but I have to keep going forward. We all do. We deserve it and so does the rest of the world.

James is so brilliant. I generally take a few phrases from his talks that help me over and over. After his free talk, I found the "you are energy" and "you wouldn't feed a race horse... and expect him to win the Derby" phrases helped me numerous times (I even used them on my mom and they helped her)!!! After this weekend, I'm motivated by the thought that "if I don't it now, I never will."

SEIZE THE DAY! I love this saying so much that I have had the words 'carpe diem' on my cell phone for the past year or so... the weekend really reinforced this for me. We can think and say the words, but we have to take action!

SO many things that James says are things that I already felt and even SAID before to my therapy clients, friends and/or family... we must remember who we are! Sometimes it so much easier to encourage others and see the good in them; yet, it really and truly starts with ourselves.

Those of you who have never heard James speak live really need to do it! His wisdom and knowledge are evident. He's pretty darn funny too. What an awesome experience!

Thank you James. God bless you.

I love you all. Love always, Jennifer

Good evening Mr. Ray,

It's almost midnight in Belgium. At this time of the day, I am quite tired so I apologize for my Frenglish! :-)

As usual, before going to bed, I watch you on oprah, here on your blog...anywhere I can...Funny enough, I keep listening to the same speeches over and over again, and keep discovering new things I had not even noticed before.

One comment you made on Oprah...that will stay forever with me is "Hellooooooo, you've been married for the 75th times....wake up.." Just writing this comment, I can see you in my mind and hear your voice....and it still makes me laugh like crazy!! :-) It is so straight to the point though! :-)

Anyway, I did notice it is much easier and quicker to manifest something when I want it than when I need it. In conclusion, I'ld better want everything now to make sure I never end up needing it! :-) :-)

Let me tell you what I tell everyone. As a single mom living overseas with my son, I have no other choices but use the secret principles to avoid ending up living in the street!!!:-)

I 've been single for five years and it may amaze people but I am truly happy being single and I feel blessed to be able to enjoy life without depending on anybody. The day I will decide to be in a relationship, it will be because I want to and not because I need to.

For those who will read this comment, I also purchased the science of success learning system. I also listen to it as often as I can. It's a great tool and I truly recommend it.

Just to give you an idea...I was able to buy a two storey house in Belgium, a brand new car, get an amazing job with 40 paid vacation days per year, 2 health insurances, dental insurance, eye doctor insurance...you name it! AND a wonderful boss and super duper great colleagues...My son is doing great in a French speaking school although he is a native english speaker. What can I tell you?? I just love life!!!

I am greatful for everything I have and thank the universe for always being there for us.

I believe that we all have met at one point in our life an amazing teacher. The first teacher that changed my life passed away a few months ago. He was my elementary teacher. I am now 36 years old and still, I kept in touch with him all these years. The day of his funerals was difficult for me. Everything I have done so far in my life was my way to prove him he was right to believe in me. Then he left and it felt as though my life was falling apart.

After praying for him, I asked him to help me find the right spiritual teacher. That's when I discovered you Mr Ray...I could say by accident...but we both know there are no accidents nor coindicences.

I have many more goals to achieve in my life. One of them is to help other single moms...I trust the universe will help me figure out how to do that. Until then, I try my best to learn and improve myself everyday. So the action I'm taking is to better myself in order to later help others. Another goal is to attend one of your seminars...OK! let me work that out ...and see you soon!:-)

You know...one week before my elementary teacher died, I finally told him how much he meant to me. I now regret waiting so long to tell him. I've been debating with myself "should I tell Mr Ray now or not? Does it even matter to him to get my feedback?" It may not mean a thing to you but it does to me :-) so that's why I am posting this comment today. I am not going to do the same mistake twice. So please, allow me to be bold and tell you this:

Mr. Ray, you are an amazing teacher. You are touching the lives of so many people in such a positive way, and you are not even aware of one tenth of it, are you?? :-):-)When I doubt my abilities to manifest what I want, I listen to you on Oprah or to your CDs and it reassures me...and pumps me up! I'm then ready to face another beautiful day! :-)

So....Thank you very much, God bless you...and see you soon at one of your seminars!

I've been looking forward to watching this ever since you posted the clip a few days ago. Thank you so much for making this happen.

As a psychic tarot reader I have come into contact with many sceptics over the years. People are often scared of what they don't understand. I have read tarot for 15 years, but I still don't completely understand how I am able to pull the exact cards that correspond to a person's life miles away by just focusing on a few words they have sent me via a computer. On day one, yes I was nervous about it working, yet because results show that it does work I continue to read tarot for everyone that I come into contact with. I don't worry about the how, I just make the most of it for myself and for those that I read for.

I see the law of attraction in the same way. I may not fully understand how it works yet because results are showing that it does I will continue to apply it into my life, make the most of it and also spread the word via my own readers (which today includes a plug and a link to your own website).

Blessings, Sarah xx

Watch Larry King tomorrow...

James Ray International

Larry King's having me back on his show tomorrow on CNN! I'll be live via satellite at 9:00 PM Eastern (6:00 PM Pacific) TOMORROW (Thursday, March 8th).

This will be the third show that Larry's done on the topic of "Beyond Positive Thinking," and he'll also be bringing on John Assaraf, Joe Vitale, Lisa Nichols and Bob Proctor.

If you missed the first two shows, which aired last November, then check them out (with no commercials!) on my site at http://jamesray.com/larryking.

Here's your "Pre-Show Checklist"...

  • Share the news with your friends and family...
  • Set your DVR to record the show.
  • After the show, send in your comments to CNN. You sent a record number of emails to them last November, and they're expecting you to do it again.

To your continued wealth and happiness,

Might I also thank you for being a messenger and example of self worth and providing valuable service. Self worth truly does equal net worth. Your answer to the woman's question was brilliantly replied. You remind me that money is just Source in action. The more who value themselves enough to accept wealth the more there will be to circulate around the planet in good will and conscious consumerism, thus leading to others doing the same.

Cheers to everyone doing what they love and being paid abundantly for their service!

Going Three for Three

With all the media buzz around The Secret, I've noticed that many people are only using one-third of the Law of Attraction... While "thinking" is an important piece, it's not the whole equation. You have to go "three for three."

I've created a free eCard that explains the "three for three" equation, and I'd love for you to check it out.

View the Three for Three eCard.

Oh, and feel free to share it with your friends and family (there are instructions on the page above).

Also, I was on CBS Morning News today discussing this very concept. Watch the clip by pressing the play button in the "CBS News Video" column on the right-hand side of the page.

James Ray on the Today show

In case you missed it, here's the link to James' interview on the Today show... Hear what the skeptics have to say about The Secret and how James responds.

Labels: , , ,

Blogger Lori said ... (2/27/2007 12:22 PM) :
I just finished watching the segment on The Secret and the Law of Attraction and these were my comments to NBC.

I find it quite telling that the Today show chose to spend the 7 minutes the program allotted this topic, denigrating the Law of Attraction, focusing on it's so called harmful effects and reducing it to fluffy "positive thinking" or "simple desire", when it is so much more.

They spent more time in the previous hour regurgitating the Anna Nicole Smith story for the seven thousandth time (can you say OVERDONE?) and investigating the fascination with celebrity in our country. What about those harmful effects? Not even mentioned. Telling, very telling.

Yes, The Secret is new packaging. So what? "What the Bleep Do We Know" is a movie of the same concept with as many, if not more doctors, scientists, spiritual leaders etc., spouting the same facts and science, but because it did not reach the masses like the Rhonda Byrne movie, no one felt the need to gather a flurry of experts to dispute the validity. Oh wait, experts? A professor, a writer/editor of Newsweek and an uninformed psychiatrist, not exactly what I would call experts, but have it your way NBC, more power to you.

It's sad that a movie that has the possibility of giving people power over their lives and taking them OUT of victim mode is so scary to the mainstream media. What are they afraid of? Did any of them even watch The Secret? Most likely not, as evidenced by Dr. Gail Saltz misleading statement insinuating that the movie claims if you think hard enough about not having cancer then you don’t have to go out and get chemotherapy or radiation. Absolutely not even close to what the movies states and she and Matt could not have misconstrued the message of the movie more. Why she felt the need to cut off James to spew this nonsense is unimaginable. Dr. Saltz seems to want to keep people in victim mode by telling them that what happens to them is not related to the thoughts, beliefs and feelings they are sending out.

Thankfully I give the people more credit than Dr. Saltz does. I am confident that anyone who actually watches the movie will see through her total misunderstanding of these concepts. The real fact is whether one is thinking "have cancer" or "not have cancer" the fact that one is thinking "cancer" at all is the real issue. What you focus on expands. That is fact. Watch it occur in the negative as much as in the positive.

The movie never claims to heal cancer by positive thinking. "Secret Teacher" Bob Proctor clearly states "Let the doctors worry about the disease while you focus on health and well being." To mislead the public by stating that The Secret advises positive thinking as the cure of disease or the cure of any woe is downright despicable and misleading. And the fact that media outlets (Larry King and CNN are also guilty of this) insist upon describing the Law of Attraction as mere positive thinking is infuriating. Anyone with half a brain could watch the movie and understand this is far from the case.

Thank God for people like Oprah and Ellen who give The Secret the time and explanation that it deserves. The world is transforming and you can't stop the evolution of consciousness. But you can stop viewers from tuning into your show. This one just did. And I have a lot of friends and family. Shame on you NBC and the Today show.

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't - either way you are RIGHT. THAT is the Law of Attraction.

Sincerely,
Lori Petro

It seems the press continues their habit of picking out parts of a statement and representing it as the whole in order to shift the meaning of the message. In this case they have failed in their attempts to prevent TRUTH from reaching the public.

James congratulations on standing up for TRUTH and continuing to speak the facts.

As you have said "truth is timeless" and the truth will feel like the truth to those who are willing to listen.

I continue to appreciate your commitment and your courage.

Namaste.

James, the fact that you could so calmly, gracefully, and eloquently speak up for your convictions in that hostile environment just shows how much you are a master of everything you teach. How sad that the other participants were so determined to discredit Rhonda's work and all the Universal Principles it contains. Thank you for taking the time again to spread the Secret. You are such a brilliant emissary of love and joy! Peace always.

James you did brilliantly with the little time they allowed you to say anything without being interupted.

Thanks so much for posting the interview. I belong to the Abraham-Hicks Yahoo group, and folks were talking you and the interview today --- so I'm thankful to be able to view it for myself.

First off, I want to say one big 'way to go James'!!! That you stuck in there despite Rhonda not being there (for whatever reason). And that you are playing in the big leagues with this. The Today Show no less. Congrats on hitting some of your own personal goals (Oprah, Larry King, etc). Good on you! Very inspirational.

Secondly, I'm just glad that someone (James!) who has been preparing for this for quite some time, is now prepared enough to handle these kinds of hot seats. You did a great job ... I felt the interview ended on a 'to be continued kind of note'. It was starting to get into a juicy discussion, with interesting points on either side. Things that need to be hashed out so folks can really get what LOA is truly about.

Even though the angle was obviously a little skewed from the big biz / media bias, James did an admirable job in holding his own. And was respectful ... something I think is very important to demonstrate in all of this. It is ok to have different beliefs. To discuss these ideas with civility.

It is really a different paradigm that LOA is about. The doctor even saying 'people focusing on not getting cancer' ... nope, she doesn't get it. You won't get any where by focusing on what you don't want.

Ahhhhh, so great that these kinds of conversations and debates are going on. Obviously its difficult to fit anything into 30 second sound bites ... especially what is really being said with LOA.

Yes, The Secret has its flaws or weak points ... what doesn't. However its playing a wonderful role in creating debate and introducing people to some different ways of thinking ... outside of our current victim consciousness that seems to reign so supreme.

Again, congrats James. I look forward to seeing the next morphs and shifts that the LOA path takes ... and thank you for your public role in helping these things unfold.

In gratitude. Christina Merkley

The really funny thing about all the "neigh sayers and skeptics" is that even their so called negative input and focus actually brings more attention and energy to The Secret and expands the consciousness on the planet. That is the beauty of the LOA. Pretty darned cool if you ask me!

The only way the "skeptics" (aka Source's Co-Creators) can reverse this phenomenon is for them to embrace the principles and focus on the opposite..... which would mean they would have to endorse the message in the film. Win-win.

Supporters or skeptics....it's all good! Really.

How's your butt?

That seat was so hot it was smoking!

Here's my comment in a nutshell. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Science or no science, real or not real, I choose to believe because my life has shown the results of removing limiting beliefs. I am finally becoming the example of possibility I always knew I could be but didn't know how.

That woman was sent in to play devil's advocate and that is such a good thing, because every time a person stands up for their beliefs it reinforces the passion behind them.

You eased elegantly through that one and I am grateful everyday for this fantastic journey!

Well Done.

James, you are truly an amazing amazing being. Anyone else would have crumbled in that seat under so much negativity, pressure and impudence. You were the star of the interview even though some inconsiderate individuals kept cutting you off. I was blown away at how you rebutted with those psychology quotations - you were so much more informed than a "medical doctor." I am so grateful to have a guru that practices what he preaches. I am so grateful to have you as my teacher. I remember your words every day. Thank you for changing my life.

Catch James Ray three ways this week...

The Today Show
I'll be on The Today Show tomorrow, Tuesday, February 26, on NBC for an interview about whether or not the Law of Attraction really works. I'm scheduled to appear sometime between 8am-9am Eastern. I can't go into details, but it should be quite an interesting appearance... You'll definitely want to tune in.

US Weekly Magazine
If you only purchase one US Weekly Magazine in your life, this is the one to get... They're doing a piece about The Secret this week and contacted me for an interview. The magazine will hit newsstands this Wednesday, February 27.

Newsweek
Also, there's a buzz going around that The Secret is also scheduled to be on the cover of Newsweek in the next week or so. I can't officially confirm when, however, when I find out more, I'll be sure to let you know.

As always, be sure to email each show or magazine after the interview... We're reaching millions with this message, and it's going mainstream. The planet is transforming, and you're a part of it--I appreciate you.

To your continued wealth and happiness,

James Arthur Ray
President/CEO
James Ray International

P.S. I'll be seeing a few thousand of you this week at one of my free events, The Secret of Attracting True Wealth. The events this week are full, although I do have more on the calendar. They're filling up fast (we've had several recently that were standing room only), so be sure to take action.

May great Love and Light be your constant companions James.

It is a tendency for humans to fear that which they don't understand or worse yet, don't attempt to understand. You are doing a fantastic job of explaining a very sticky subject (quantum physics) with great wisdom, respect and diplomacy. Keep up the great work.

If I may be so bold to suggest.... possibly the addition of a link/book page to the "Science Behind The Secret" at The Secret website might be helpful to dispel some of the doubt. Perhaps references to The Heartmath Institute, Institute of Noetic Sciences, Rupert Sheldrake, Aharonov-Bohm effect, etc. would be useful?

Regardless, our collective consciousness is evolving in this direction and not long now these discussions will all be "old school". I am very grateful to you and your friends with The Secret for being torchbearers into the new energy. Many blessings to you all.

Be well,
Shelly Horten

Because of the overwhelming response Oprah received from the show she dedicated to The Secret, I was invited back to do a follow-up show this Friday (2/16)! The guests will include Michael Beckwith and me.

We're taping the show on Valentine's Day, so it's bound to be good!

Also, be sure to check out Oprah After the Show on Saturday (2/17) on Oxygen for some footage not seen in the first show.

I enjoyed watching this show and seeing James Ray on Oprah. I first heard him in the middle of the night on Coast to Coast. I was having trouble sleeping and turned on my radio. I signed up for his email and have been receiving his inspirational messages regularly. It is changing my life as a single mom. Besides, he isn't bad to look at either...
Fondly,

Update: Oprah and The Secret...

UPDATE: As you may have heard, Oprah is hosting a show dedicated to The Secret... She's invited Rhonda Byrne, the producer of The Secret, to be on the show, along with four of The Secret's teachers: Dr. Michael Beckwith, Jack Canfield, Lisa Nichols and yours truly.

Oprah decided it would be best to tape and edit the show instead of broadcasting live. She wants to make sure the show provides the most impact that it can. I won't know the air date until a few days after the taping (January 31st), but I'll be sure to keep you updated as soon as I know.

I submitted my testimony over at the Oprah site. Here's what I wrote:

How can I even begin to tell you how The Secret changed my life??? I don't have much space so I'll give you a list:

* I created my dream board with the dollar amount $7,000 on it. The same week, my company landed a project for $8,000!

* All my "negative" friends are now ex-friends and have 4 new friends who are supportive, positive and just as committed to personal excellence as I am.

* My business has received over double the amount of media opportunities (I keep track)

* I released the idea that I had to "force" my boyfriend to marry me and now our relationship is better than ever!

* I set the intention that I wanted to attract someone who could guide me in taking my wellness regiment more seriously. A few weeks later, I met my wellness coach and we’ve been working together for months now with GREAT breakthroughs!

* I live in New York. Parking is NOTORIOUSLY difficult – to say the least. Yet, I routinely manifest parking spaces almost directly in front of my destination.

* I added a picture of one of my dream vacations, Costa Rica, to my dream board and I’ll be traveling there later this year!

* The other day, I woke up to two pieces of bad news. My day hadn’t started and it was already going down hill. I immediately sat down, reversed my attraction and later that day, I was offered a boss writing opportunity.

I MAKE time to watch The Secret at least once a week (I bought the DVD) and each time I watch it, my resolve strengthens. I cement the quality of life I want to attract. My energy goes where my attention flows.

I am not a magician. I wasn’t born into wealth. I don’t have a trust fund. I am an “everyday” woman who owns a growing business and who has learned how to apply The Secret to my whole life. I would love to appear to show people that this is real. It’s not a bunch of hoo-hah or hocus pocus. The Law of Attraction is based on the respected science of quantum physics. There is a reason that it works. It works because it’s real. I’m proof of that.

P.S. James, it was GREAT seeing you in White Plains, NY the other night. What a tremendous speaker you are! I've already held up three fingers to several people! GET OVER IT! :)

Thanks for a great program and a great opportunity,

Lena
