Setting the Record Straight

James Ray’s legal team has interviewed more than twenty people, including participants who attended the Spiritual Warrior Retreat, James Ray International employees and volunteers both inside and outside the sweat lodge; the man who built the sweat lodge under contract with the Angel Valley; and a Native American expert on the construction and use of sweat lodges. A review of these and other facts shows that the deaths were heartbreaking and tragic but were not the result of criminal negligence on the part of James Ray or JRI.

Please take a moment to review a more complete set of facts regarding the Sedona tragedy.

As always, we appreciate all the support that we’ve all received during this difficult situation and time.

Important Update Regarding the Sedona Investigation

For more than two months now we have been cooperating with Arizona authorities to help determine the cause of the tragic Sedona sweat lodge accident. We have worked to facilitate interviews involving the James Ray International employees and the authorities, and my representatives have also conducted a large number of interviews and collected a great deal of other information on their own. As this work continues now into the New Year, I believe it is time to share with you the information – two White Papers, along with supporting materials -- that my representatives have shared with Arizona authorities.

As always, we appreciate all the support that we’ve all received during this difficult situation and time.

Much love and respect,

Sedona Update - 11/30/09

I hope you enjoyed a blessed Thanksgiving holiday. As we move toward the end of 2009, I'd like to give you another update on the ongoing work in Sedona.

As you know, I've asked members of my team to travel to Arizona, meet with authorities there and provide all the information they have to offer. That process has gone on for the last two weeks, and we believe it's been helpful.

Of course, if additional information is required, my team is ready to provide it in our continuing hope that the causes of the Sedona accident can be determined as quickly and authoritatively as possible.

I'm grateful for all the love and support we've received, and we'll do our very best to keep you updated.

Much love and respect,

Sedona Update - 11/7/09

I'm continuing to devote all my energy to determine the facts surrounding the tragic accident at Sedona. I've instructed my representatives to meet with the authorities in Arizona and to share with those authorities the facts they learn. That process is ongoing.

In the meantime, I want to let you know that not only is this situation requiring all of my personal focus, it's also consuming my entire team's focus as well. For that reason, you can expect significant delays in responses to all general business requests. We have every intention of responding once we have helped determine what happened in Sedona.

Important Update Regarding Upcoming Events

The lives of the families impacted by the Sedona tragedy have been changed forever. These families deserve to have the questions raised by the tragedy answered as quickly and authoritatively as possible. That is the goal I'm dedicated to achieving.

In the days following the terrible accident, I struggled to respond in the right way. This is the most emotionally wrenching situation I've ever faced, and it's now clear I must dedicate all of my physical and emotional energies to helping bring some sort of closure to this matter. That means helping the authorities and the families get to the bottom of what happened.

I'm committed to devoting all of my time, for as long as it takes, to achieve this goal. For that reason, I'm postponing all the events I had planned for the remainder of 2009. These events will be rescheduled as soon as possible in 2010—once the essential work that must be done on the Sedona tragedy has been completed.

I appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time. I will keep you updated regularly as we move forward about our progress and about our plans for rescheduling the postponed events.

Much love and respect,

Regarding the Recent Events in Sedona

For me, for the families and friends of the sick and deceased and for many people who believe in the important work we do, these have been the most difficult ten days of our lives.

People are throwing out accusations and disparaging me and our mission. Yet despite that, and despite considerable criticism, I have chosen to continue with my work. It's too important not to. One of the lessons I teach is that you have to confront and embrace adversity and learn and grow from it. I promise you I am doing a lot of learning and growing. I have taken heat for that decision, but if I chose to lock myself in my home, I am sure I would be criticized for hiding and not practicing what I preach.

It means a great deal to me that so many of you have come to see me speak this week and last--that you are investing your time and energy into creating more fulfilling, successful and productive lives. It reaffirms my decision to continue my schedule and these event experiences.

I want to use this forum to address the families of those whose lives were lost, James, Kirby and Liz. I have reached out to all of the families personally, but feel the need to say more. I feel your pain. I accept your anger. And I pray for you all to have some measure of peace and comfort. I want you to know that I too want to know what happened that caused this horrible tragedy. My team and I are working with the appropriate authorities and have even hired our own investigators to find out the truth.

I believe the best way to honor their amazing lives and everlasting memory is to continue this important work. Please join me in a moment of silence to pay homage to their lives and to pray for the speedy recovery of others taken ill.
